Proposal Title: Mobile Iraqi Civilian Memorial, 03/31/2008, Installation
Proposal Synopsis: The suffering, sacrifice and contemplation of loss on-going and represented through digital media can never be understood by the outside world. Those who have been affected by the lost of loved ones can only truly contemplate loss from emotional and any spiritual reflection. The installation here is a collaboration of these two principles, to generate understanding and to celebrate or mourn the personal cost of the Iraq war. The energy of these principles is attempted to be reflected in the architecture, where it points to the heavens both day and night. Thus although in the context of overwhelming information, this installation represents a space which records and displays the images and thoughts of the war, it primarily aims to bring the visitor to truly contemplate loss by pointing towards the skies, metaphorically free of political and religious hatred. A building that aims towards the heavens is held within the boundaries of a memorial wall that aims to generate a space of mourning from ground level.
